Our Hotel History, Heartland Hotel Fox Glacier
The Fox Glacier Hotel was originally built in 1925 for the local Sullivan family who were considered the original pioneering family of the area. It has played host to climbers, adventurers and tourists ever since.
The original property has been extended and upgraded over time with significant refurbishment at first floor level during 2007. The A and B Blocks were constructed around 1985 however, during 2003/2004 A Block was refurbished and there was a superficial cosmetic refurbishment of B Block.
Offering a total of 67 rooms, spread over four blocks and providing a mixed standard of accommodation from basic backpackers through to good standard contemporary, the hotel is also an iconic local meeting place. The White Pub Café & Bar are both well attended during the summer months by locals and tourists alike.
Scenic Hotel Group acquired the property in August 2008 and immediately set about upgrading the hotel accommodation rooms and public areas. The property was rebranded as Heartland Hotel Fox Glacier in May 2009.
